======================================

The original version was posted on Dime 5/14/19.
For this remastered version. I applied a dynamic setting called 2:1 volume boost.
This basically raises the quieter instrumentation and amplifies it pulling up more sound and giving it a major audio boost.
If you’ve got the original version you’ll notice a big difference.
Thanks to the original uploader Jon Alberts.

The Cars
From Wikipedia

The Cars were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1976. Emerging from the new wave scene in the late 1970s, the line-up consisted of singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter Ric Ocasek; bassist and singer Benjamin Orr; lead guitarist Elliot Easton; keyboardist Greg Hawkes; and drummer David Robinson.

The Cars were at the forefront in merging 1970s guitar-oriented rock with the new synthesizer-oriented pop that was then becoming popular and which flourished in the early 1980s. Robert Palmer, music critic for The New York Times and Rolling Stone, described the Cars' musical style: "they have taken some important but disparate contemporary trends—punk minimalism, the labyrinthine synthesizer and guitar textures of art rock, the '50s rockabilly revival and the melodious terseness of power pop—and mixed them into a personal and appealing blend."

The band broke up in 1988 and Ocasek had since stated that a reunion would never happen. Orr died in 2000 from pancreatic cancer. In 2005, Easton and Hawkes joined with Todd Rundgren to form a spin-off band, the New Cars, which performed classic Cars and Rundgren songs alongside new material. The surviving original members reunited in 2010 to record a new album, Move Like This, which was released in May 2011, followed by a short tour. In April 2018, the Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and reunited once more to perform at the induction ceremony. The reunion was their final performance with Ocasek, who died on September 15, 2019 of cardiovascular disease.

Late in January, JEMS lost a second founding member, the great Stan Gutoski.
Stan recorded hundreds of shows in and around the Seattle area starting in 1972 and kept taping over five decades.
He was famous for recording shows on a Tandberg full-track mono reel to reel, and his masters of Led Zeppelin,
Bruce Springsteen, The Who, David Bowie, CSNY and Joni Mitchell are some of the best '70s recordings of those artists.

What is less widely known about Stan is that he was equally committed to recording radio broadcasts on his home reel to reel which was a Revox B77.
If any local Seattle station was broadcasting a live concert or carrying a syndicated concert series, Stan fired up the recorder,
sometimes going to sleep with an alarm to wake him up to flip the tape (his job in the postal service required him to report to work very early).
He also set up a timer system to record broadcasts when he couldn't be there to start the deck.

Stan made over 200 radio recordings, some on 10" reels that are packed with music and interviews.
Those reels were sitting idle in the JEMS Archive for years until our friends at KRW_CO volunteered to transfer them.
We were only too happy to let a team whose work we admire take possession of the radio reels and bring Stan's tireless late-night efforts into the digital age.

~~ ENJOY ~~

The opening act was Sammy Hagar.

The last song of the show was "Television Politician", but it's missing from this recording.

notes from wiki.

The first tour in 1976 in support of the album was a short six-week promotional club tour throughout the Midwest. Boston soon found themselves on a nationwide tour that lasted 10 months. "We started playing the Agoras in Cleveland and Columbus," said Delp. "500-1000 seat clubs. The response was great, I was amazed that people were singing along with all the songs. It really impressed upon me the power of radio, the fact that wherever we went, they were just playing the record and people just came, and it was great." However, several bands that the group opened for were less than enthusiastic to meet them. At one point, they were opening for Foghat, but lost the gig when a Milwaukee disc jockey introduced Boston, not headliner Foghat, as the best rock and roll band in the world. While the band were apprehensive about opening for Black Sabbath, the experience was pleasant. "The great thing about Black Sabbath was that they didn't do soundchecks," remembered Delp. "So we were afforded all the time we wanted on stage, Ozzy Osbourne would say, 'Ahh, you wanna go up and play some songs, go ahead.' They couldn't have been nicer.

Boston eventually began headlining shows in 1977, and sold out four Southern California concert halls within a one-week span. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band opened for Boston in Detroit. On their swing back to the Northeast, they sold out two nights in the Philadelphia Spectrum—and in their New York City debut, three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden."I sold out arenas with this group in four cities from Lincoln, Nebraska to Louisville, Kentucky," said concert promoter Bob Bagaris to Billboard. "I've never seen such universal penetration of key secondary markets by any major group. Even the biggest acts usually don't do so well in every market.

original seeder's notes:
--
This is one of my favorite Boston boots from years past.
It's Boston in their prime and in their home town!
The crowd was rowdy and the band fed off of that.
Tom Scholz even instructed the crowd to ignore the rules
and stand on their seats if they wanted to.

This recording was widely traded for years on cassette,
and eventually released on a bootleg CD called "Party to Boston".
But finding a good audio source proved difficult.
I finally obtained a 2nd gen cassette tape which sounds
way better than any tape of this show I had heard previously...
and sounds *much* better than "Party to Boston"
(which is even missing a song).

No work has been done to the audio other than transfer
and normalization. Personally, I think it sounds great
just as it is. But this is a good reference copy to work
from if anybody feels bold enough to try their hand at it.

I reworked the artwork from "Party to Boston" to fit this boot.
Everything is exactly as it was except for the back.
It now reflects two CDs and lists the missing song
"Television Politician". I also added a slight drop shadow
on the text for readability. The artwork is 200dpi.

Notes:

Crystal Cat's "Winterland Night" is the source for the majority of tracks,

other than The Promised Land (runs fast), Thunder Road (hiss, runs fast) and

Jungleland (hiss, runs fast) which are taken from Great Dane's "Live In The

Promised Land".

Remaster effects are primarily EQ and compression. The result is more of a

"live" feeling, with much improved instrument balance, the drums were

previously far too high in the mix. Each song was painstakingly remastered,

with more than ten takes for every track.

I hope you enjoy the set, and thanks to Prodigal Son for all his efforts.

9. Philadelphia 102FM concert report about incident

Notes:

Interesting aborted Aerosmith show I acquired in the early 1980s. Aerosmith had played Philly Oct. 9, 1977 and as they returned to the stage for an encore, someone chucked an M-80 at the band. The firework exploded, gashing Joe Perry's arm. The band played another show in Philly Dec. 19, 1977 without incident. The band came back for this show on November 25, 1978. From the get go things are flying on stage, including a shoe. Tyler asks the crowd to instead throw "bras and joints" and the show continues until the beginning of "Sight For Sore Eyes" when someone from the City of Brotherly Love throws a bottle at the stage, hitting Steve Tyler right in the face. I believe it's Joey Kramer who grabs the mic and admonishes the crowd. We then get a stage annoucement that the band will not come back on, as the Philly crowd groans. The tape shuts off, but we have a local radio dj talk about what went down. Aerosmith had bad feelings about Philly apparently and did not return until February 1983,with Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo on guitars when the band did two shows 14 days apart that month.
