YOUR EARS AND MIND...Gabba Gabba Hey! The first 10 tracks of this recording are seriously distorted, which make an easy listening almost impossible. After that the taper seemed

to realize the problem, and levels are fixed to a much better quality. This didn't even distract the taper from a visit to the loo (documented in track # 14), which pulled me

out of my seat with a sheer laughter attack (which I have not full recovered from, yet!). Due to and overlap of a few songs, there's no tapeflip audible. It's originally been

betwen track 20/21 set.

This particular date listing has never been on Traders Den and not currently on dime.

There appears to be some confusion with this listed with a few different dates. I'm seeing this as Aug 8, 15 or 22 and/or Malibu May 1.

This recording gets attributed to The Malibu, Lido Beach, NY May 1, 1981 FM from a liberated vinyl "Jett Lagg".

I have "Jett Lagg" vinyl flacs and they are the same concert. The LP is missing Denis McNamara's intro and the stage announcer.

The great Stan Gutoski. R.I.P.

Stan recorded hundreds of shows in and around the Seattle area starting in 1972 and kept taping for over five decades.

He was famous for recording shows on a Tandberg full-track mono reel to reel, and his masters of Led Zeppelin,

Bruce Springsteen, The Who, David Bowie, CSNY, and Joni Mitchell are some of the best '70s recordings of those artists.

What is less widely known about Stan is that he was equally committed to recording radio broadcasts on his home reel to reel which was a Revox B77.

If any local Seattle station was broadcasting a live concert or carrying a syndicated concert series, Stan fired up the recorder,

sometimes going to sleep with an alarm to wake him up to flip the tape (his job in the postal service required him to report to work very early).

He also set up a timer system to record broadcasts when he couldn't be there to start the deck.

Stan made over 200 radio recordings, some on 10" reels that are packed with music and interviews.

Those reels were sitting idle in the JEMS Archive for years until our friends at KRW_CO volunteered to transfer them.

We were only too happy to let a team whose work we admire take possession of the radio reels and bring Stan's tireless late-night efforts into the digital age.

From liner notes : "As Robert misremembers in his book, 'Ten Imaginary Years',

'We'd only been on for about a half an hour and everything was running late so Robert Plamer's road crew started

motioning to us to stop. This bloke ran on and said "If you don't stop playing, we're gonna pull the plug'.

Simon immediately walked to the mike and shouted 'Fuck Robert Palmer! Fuck Rock'N'Roll!'

and we were started playing a really slow version of 'A Forest' which lasted about 15 minutes.

It was fucking brilliant. Unfortunately, when we finished, they threw all our stuff off the back of the stage..."

In fact, the song was not slow but long, with Robert singing alternate lyrics 'such a long end!', not 15 but around 9 minutes,

and Simon Gallup didn't shout before but after.

Their hour long set is deliberate and brilliant for the time. The title comes from bassist Simon Gallup’s statement at the end.

According to Robert Smith, Robert Palmer’s road crew were trying to get The Cure off the stage so they could get everything ready for his set.

Here it is my remastered version of the Boston 81 pre-fm.

I have mainly solved the bad phase problem occured

on the original recording.Then i have balanced the stereo

image and the eq.I have applied a light dynamic compression

to enhance the sound.All i can say is that the pre-fm

needed a remaster for sure.As i always say i do this

only for pleasure and passion so everybody can enjoy

the listening of this gig in their car,with their home stereo

or with their headphones without having to mess up

with the equalizer or the sound balance.

To tell you the truth it seems that the original tape is

cut in the high frequencies range...if it comes from a promo cd....

if they made a proper recording at least

they used 1/4 of inch analog stereo recorder...those tapes if well

preserved..they last long and do not present clear problems in the

high frequencies range...it seems to me that the cd was made from

a high generation tape made of the master tape...but who knows!

By the way the same recording on the Wolfgang's vault does not have any

phase problem and sounds better than the source posted here days ago.
