Notes:

The first 1:25 of Bertha in the SBD mix has a boomy, flat sound before it kicks into gear.

The SBD levels were louder for the first couple songs and were reduced to compensate.

A loud burst in Jerry's vocals during Bertha was reduced.

Jeff Silberman's Sennheiser 441 Dat recording, #142045 via Charlie Miller and Joe Noel (5/25/18), patches additional sections between songs in the AUD to maintain a continuous AUD track in the matrix.

11-second cut in Bertha (in the middle of huge Phil Bombs) and 16-second cut in Space in the SBD source now patched. The most beautiful, ethereal section of Space is where the cut occurs at 6:36 - interesting to go AUD-only here for this transcendent moment.

Tuning sections were trimmed.

Lamarre's recording adds some deep, resonant bass that is much needed for these particular SBD mixes. There was some pretty extended high end (treble) for these Philly shows that was EQ'd as needed with respect to each source.

2-second cut in Cold Rain And Snow and 25-second cut in Drums SBD now patched.

Jeff Silberman's Sennheiser 441 Dat recording, #139156 via Charlie Miller and Joe Noel (8/25/17), patches additional sections between songs in the AUD to maintain a continuous AUD track in the matrix.

Some tuning sections were trimmed.

The SBD speed gradually slows to around -0.4% in set 1 and was adjusted to compensate.

There was an 18-second patch in Fire On The Mountain in the SBD source for which levels and EQ were adjusted to compensate. A minuscule cut occurs at the patch's fade in-point that was doctored to not be noticeable. Some brief phase occurs at the patch's fade out-point.

Lamarre's recording adds some deep, resonant bass that is much needed for these particular SBD mixes. There was some pretty extended high end (treble) for these Philly shows that was EQ'd as needed with respect to each source.

Notes:

Rob Eaton and Jeff Silberman's Neumann u87 Dat recording, #10035 (6/11/02), patches additional sections between songs in the AUD to maintain a continuous AUD track in the matrix.

Tuning sections were trimmed.

There's an abrupt cut at the very beginning of Minglewood Blues.

Lamarre's recording adds some deep, resonant bass that is much needed for these particular SBD mixes. There was some pretty extended high end (treble) for these Philly shows that was EQ'd as needed with respect to each source.

The SBD CM or reel generation must have had an old Jerry show on it that was taped over, probably from '74 or'75. The likely Jerry & Merl show is subtly bleeding through in the left channel, but it is only really noticeable during some quiet parts in the recording. I didn't realize this was the actual issue until the Don't Need Love > Drums transition, where you can hear a performance of Tough Mama. This bleeding effect can also be detected at times in the first set as well, mainly as a subtle rumbling sound. It can be heard a little more during Drums/Space and might be a bit distracting during this portion of the show.

Stevie was having a great time it seemed, my 1st time seeing him, hopefully I'll get another change, thoroughly enjoyed myself!

There are some click like sounds here and there, but
that is the way they are on my discs, don`t know
if it`s just my source or that it is from the master.

Also as there was the seemingly lossy problem with my previous upload (Yes HMH Nov 21, 2001), i decided to call on the help of the Dime Mods. Mod jupiter 2101 was kind enough to help me figure out if this torrent was o.k. to uplaod or not. It took some time, but i got the o.k. to upload. jupiter 2101 asked a friend (fellow Mod?) as he said it was o.k. I asked if it was o.k. to use that confirmation in my textfile, but jupiter 2101 could not speak for his friend, but i could upload the torrent and include the EAC FA & SA, which i did. So i hope all is well then (and many thanks to the Mods that helped).

I hope you enjoy this one as much as i had uploading it for you!

I`m not online 24/7, it is what it is!

Mike Purdy Yesworld Review:

Venue: Philadelphia, PA, August 21
Posted by: Mike (mpurdy@jwpepper.com)

A previous reviewer (Barry) suggested some words from a member of
the orchestra that played the Mann Ctr performance might be
interesting. Well, I was pleased to be in the orchestra that night.
I know there are many opinions about the use of the orchestra at
this concert but Iím very please that no one said the orchestra
sucked (smile).

Iím not sure what youíd like to know but let me start off by saying
that this is very demanding music in every respect. Without getting
technical the charts call for tremendous concentration to negotiate
the complex rhythmic passages, amazing physical endurance to play at
the sustained volume called for (Iím a brass player) and the parts
push the limits of range (high and low) of the instruments. It was
really a nightís work to say the least. Add to this that we were
allowed a 2-hour rehearsal including the 15-minute break required by
the union (Itís really expensive to pay for an orchestra of that
size). Much of the time had to be spent on working out the complex
metrics of the music and some of the straight-ahead material we did
not play until the concert.

The conductor was in total control of the session. He knew the
music upside down and backwards. He was totally in touch with the
flexibility needed for the band (YES) to give a performance that was
not a cookie cutter dog and pony show (more on this later). Now, he
took over the position after the tour started and, if I remember
correctly, he told me this was show number 10 for him. It was
really a display of musicianship that he worked so closely with the
band to keep the whole thing from crashing and burning.

It was mentioned somewhere in the reviews that the orchestral
accompaniment kept the group from being as spontaneous as in shows
without orchestra. This is somewhat true but not the total picture.
Each of us had a headset that allowed the conductor to give us
changes as they were happening during the performance and allow the
band to somewhat change the piece as they felt moved to. His
comments would range from instructions to the timpanist to not play
the percussive hits in his part as the percussionist in YES elected
to play them, to an unannounced repeat of a section and included
compliments and encouragement when the orchestra followed him or
executed a particularly difficult passage.

All in all this was quite an experience. Definitely not the typical
gig orchestral or otherwise. While I am proud of the level of
professionalism displayed by the orchestra I can only think of what
an additional performance would have been with the orchestra knowing
the music on a deeper level.

Iím certainly glad to have been part of this performance and hope
the opportunity comes around again.

9. Philadelphia 102FM concert report about incident

Notes:

Interesting aborted Aerosmith show I acquired in the early 1980s. Aerosmith had played Philly Oct. 9, 1977 and as they returned to the stage for an encore, someone chucked an M-80 at the band. The firework exploded, gashing Joe Perry's arm. The band played another show in Philly Dec. 19, 1977 without incident. The band came back for this show on November 25, 1978. From the get go things are flying on stage, including a shoe. Tyler asks the crowd to instead throw "bras and joints" and the show continues until the beginning of "Sight For Sore Eyes" when someone from the City of Brotherly Love throws a bottle at the stage, hitting Steve Tyler right in the face. I believe it's Joey Kramer who grabs the mic and admonishes the crowd. We then get a stage annoucement that the band will not come back on, as the Philly crowd groans. The tape shuts off, but we have a local radio dj talk about what went down. Aerosmith had bad feelings about Philly apparently and did not return until February 1983,with Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo on guitars when the band did two shows 14 days apart that month.

The original version to flac had track fade in & outs, but it doesn't really detract from the quality of the show.

This was dated as June 26, but setlist.fm has this as June 23. I'm not sure what the correct date is.

1994 tour dates

I also re-tracked it and fixed the set list.

At the time of this concert Whitney had been married to Bobby Browne for about 2 years and Bobby joins in on the final song.

Whitney Houston passed on February 11, 2012, aged 48.
