to support those who are affected by congenital heart disease (CHD).

In 2017, Michael Anthony lost his two-week-old grandson to the disease,

and ever since, has done his part to help this important organization.

When I heard about this show being held at a small venue in Costa Mesa, CA, I made arrangements to go there.

It entailed a flight across the country but was worth it.

The backing band was a southern California band called "The Trip" (https://tripband.com/)

who had performed at Michael Anthony's daughter's wedding.

This band features Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (from Guns n' Roses among others).

Other guests that made appearances on stage were Sammy Hagar, Phil X (Bon Jovi), John 5 (Motley Crue),

Drummer Tre Cool from Green Day, and drummer Marco Minnemann.

The event featured two auctions in between sets.

For the second auction, I noticed my batteries had less charge than I would have liked,

so I opted to shut off the deck and used my iPhone to record this section to save battery life for the other sets.

Notes: Quality on this recording is excellent. 

This was one of the first shows Van Halen played after being signed to Warner Bros in October 1977. Some people point to this date being the 1st of October but this has never been confirmed. Also, it's worth noting that Van Halen played two sets in Magic Mountain and it's not known if this is the first or second set.

'One More Time' is an unreleased song by Van Halen and this recording is the only example of this song ever being played live.

'Loss Of Control' is the earliest live example of this song being performed from the album 'Women and the Children First'. 

'No More Waiting' is also known as 'Get Off My Back' and 'Show No Mercy' and the intro was recylced by Eddie nearly 20 years later for 'Take Me Back (Deja Vu)' for their 'Balance' album.

'Summertime Blues' is the earliest known live version by Van Halen.

'Take Your Whiskey Home' and 'In A Simple Rhyme' are demos which have been featured on the bootleg 'Demo Daze' but these come from a much lower generation Tape source. These two songs were also recorded in 1974.

but apparently the "live without a net" was recorded the following night

so might as well jump in.

this is not the definitive edition of this show

but it is from an almost never played FM master cassette.

for years I always heard him called "Eddie", much like Vedder, of Pearl Jam

but seems everyone refers to him now as "Edward".

Original Notes: "A bit of a rarity here. Taper did do a good job with this recording, all instruments are fairly clear. The beginning is missing... As "Intruder" starts you can hear him say "I got about 5 minutes left on this tape, I got to turn it around" which is sorta near the 45 minute mark (side 1 of a 90 min tape) so maybe he didn't record the beginning of the show. Also have heard these BR shows (one from '84) were being kept under wraps. The 84 Baton Rouge was never circulated. This is the only CVH show from Louisiana to circulate (before 2007 at least). Anyway, enjoy!"
