Eight show from the The Cure's current impossible-to-get-tix-for US tour. Eclectic setlist including a handful of new songs. These guys are still great and Robert Smith's voice has not aged a bit. Recorded from Orch Row J in front of the mains. Samples below. A nice recording with lot of bass. A great venue. Like the Austin show, there was a cable issue the and right channel of a few minutes towards the beginning of the show went unrecorded. (Pretty sure I need a new battery box.) I patched it with the left channel. Same issue was at the the end of Lullaby and there was a few second drop out on both channels. I patched the hole with the same bit from Austin. It is not seamless. Even with extreme eqing, it's surprising how different the two shows sound. Other than that the show sounds great. Samples below.

From liner notes : "As Robert misremembers in his book, 'Ten Imaginary Years',

'We'd only been on for about a half an hour and everything was running late so Robert Plamer's road crew started

motioning to us to stop. This bloke ran on and said "If you don't stop playing, we're gonna pull the plug'.

Simon immediately walked to the mike and shouted 'Fuck Robert Palmer! Fuck Rock'N'Roll!'

and we were started playing a really slow version of 'A Forest' which lasted about 15 minutes.

It was fucking brilliant. Unfortunately, when we finished, they threw all our stuff off the back of the stage..."

In fact, the song was not slow but long, with Robert singing alternate lyrics 'such a long end!', not 15 but around 9 minutes,

and Simon Gallup didn't shout before but after.

Their hour long set is deliberate and brilliant for the time. The title comes from bassist Simon Gallup’s statement at the end.

According to Robert Smith, Robert Palmer’s road crew were trying to get The Cure off the stage so they could get everything ready for his set.

This is the first large venue recording I made using the Sennheiser AMBEO headset with my iPhone. Overall, I'm satisfied with how the recording turned out, and will use this combo again in the future. It meets my casual recording needs, and is discrete so that there are no hassles with security. The AMBEO mics are much more sensitive than I expected, as they unfortunately captured the occasional commentary and vocalizations of the guy behind me. My first Cure concert was in 1981, and 42 years later Robert Smith's vocals and playing is still just as strong.

"This tape was recorded specifically to try to acquire what has now been called the Frankfurt & Bremen Prayer Tour Soundboard.

I was given samples of these shows (as well as Brussels 87 and London 84 SBD) on a dat tape from a prominent german trader

that basically said if you can match it let me know, and we can trade. At the time it was made to sound like there were

complete versions of both these shows (which it appears they are not).  The famous JJ recorded this show off the

ALD system at Harford Meadows which was a telex system. To this day, even though it was a mono feed

(JJ had a stereo 1/8th inch adapter, but we only got one channel out of the box) its still one of the best in house ALD

systems we have heard. There are some fluctuations in volume and there was a dropout during Plainsong were the jack

came out. This was only the second Plainsong since 1989, and their sound engineer did not understand he was supposed to

fade out the bells when the song starts so that tape continues well into the song which sounds quite strange."

Notes: Great to see The Cure on this side of the pond! I wish I could make the entire NYC run, but this is probably it for me. I'm usually keen to listen to any bands' new material live, but I'm not very impressed by these new songs. On the plus side, the visuals and Simon's bass playing were amazing on this show. First nights are usually a warm up so I'll be following setlist.fm to see if they bring out more oddities to the setlists. It was great to hear Three Imaginary Boys and the Plainsong/Disintegration encore. I think this is a pretty good capture of the night. There's some crowd noise here and there, including some screamers that I tried to mitigate through spectral cleaning the best I could, but far from terrible.

I had a long clapper to my left. She clapped longer than most after a song was over

and she would raise her hands a little over her head to do it most of the time so

her clapping was right next to one of my microphones. I ponderously removed many of

her individual claps except where it interfered with Robert's banter or music inbetween

songs. Otherwise it was a loud rambunctious crowd even where I was sitting in the 200 level.

And the people behind just could not shut up throughout the whole show. You hear them sometimes.
