Speed Corrected Version"By whom is a mystery.

Hi to all

Welcome to my series of mostly un-circulated masters & very low generation shows that i recorded or received in trades in my younger days most of my masters have not been circulated or only traded once or twice i used to trade a lot in the 70s - 80s & i have many many shows well in excess of 7,500 tapes.
Of these shows about 120 - 150 are my masters they where always on my trading list but not many got traded so i boxed them all up in the late 80s now i have decided to go through them & upload some of them.
I recorded many bands from Genesis – Bowie – Springsteen - Hawkwind - Hackett – Gabriel –
Marillion plus many many others i will try & upload a least one show a week if not two.
To record theses shows i used a Sony portable hand held tape recorder with built in stereo mics.
I always used good quality tapes to record on mainly T.D.K.
I used to insert the tape deck in a empty coffee flask with the inside taken out of the flask to get past the security ah those where the days.
The only thing i ask is please don’t sell these recording & don’t convert to mp3 etc & if you do ( only for your own use ). Please don’t change any of the files or info files etc this is so that people can tell the difference between this source & other sources as many people like to compare different versions of shows.
Also please do not remaster these shows the reason for this is these days there are far to many remasters of shows. Its ok have one remaster etc, but some are remastered that many times by different people there can be at least 10 different remasters of a show from the same source & it can get a bit tedious.
PLEASE ALSO DO NOT UPLOAD TO OTHER TORRENT SITES I WILL BE UPLOADING
THEM TO MOST MUSIC SITES WHEN I CAN GET ROUND TO IT THE REASON FOR THIS IS I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST SOME HAVE BEEN UPLOADED WITH FILES CHANGED ETC
DOING THIS CAUSES CONFUSION WITH THE TORRENT.
All show are RAW versions with little or no tampering with the sound

I have now up-dated my tape decks for transfering recordings from audio tapes to my PC. I am now
using the following decks
Either
Nakamichi 1000ZXL Gold Edition Or
Nakamichi Dragon

Both theses decks are considered to be the best Tape decks ever made both have auto tape Azimuth Alignment which will be used on all transfers. Both Decks have been Up-dated and serviced by trained Nakamichi specialists.
I have for the past 6 month been trying out and experimenting with theses decks and they are well worth the money amazing sound ( And should be for the money they cost ).
All the tape transfers that are done through my Yamaha Receiver are done via the pure direct button ( all the displays on the receiver and tape deck are switched off ). so there is then no interference via the electrical circuitry.
All tapes are wound forward and backward at least 4 times before i transfer them to avoid
tape slack.

On to the show for your enjoyment Davros archives presents :-

Genesis - 1974-01-26 L'Ancienne Theatre, Brussels ( DAVROS215 )

Linage :- ( c90 T.D.K-D ) - Nakamichi 1000ZXL With Auto Alinement -
Yamaha Reciever - Monster Phono Leads Into PC Soundcard - Nero Wave Editor -
Wav - Tracks split - Traders Little Helper - Flac8 - SBE Checked - You.

TRACKS:-

01. WATCHER OF THE SKIES.
02. DANCING WITH THE MOONLIT KNIGHT.
03. THE CINEMA SHOW.
04. I KNOW WHAT I LIKE.
05. FIRTH OF FIFTH.
06. MUSICAL BOX.
07. MORE FOOL ME.( 1st 30 Seconds Only )
08. HAROLD THE BARREL.
09. SUPPERS READY.

Known Issues

"More Fool Me" is only the first 30 seconds Last minute of "Suppers Ready" Missing
Slight cut towards end of "firth of fifth" possibly a tape flip

I got this around early 1981 from a trader in France all copys of this show have i believe the same cuts ive listen to a few versions of this show this seems to be the clearest.
I don't know if this is a upgrade to any already in circulation but could be a up-grade to some The quality is Good at times V-Good

I do not claim this version is better or worse than any other version in circulation

Many many thanks to the trader for sending me a copy & the person who recorded the show

As Usual Please dont convert to mp3 ( only for your own use if you do ) Please Keep all the info files md5 etc in the folder so that other collectors know which version this is etc and most of all DO NOT SELL.

PLEASE NOTE.

This series is from my own personal collection they are NOT SOURCED FROM ANY CDRs / OTHER TORRENT SITES ETC.
They are from recordings that i traded for between 20 - 35 years ago on audio tape as stated above they have all been boxed up for the past 20 or so years.
This is the first time any of them have been Digitally transfered and torrented. All i am doing to the recordings in nero wave editor is inproving the volume ( if low),
also equallizing the left and right channel where needed. Removing hiss etc ( If i can ).
Recordings in this series that have a generation linage are the correct linage as to what i was told when i was sent the recordings. Most of the traders i traded with where well known traders so i have no reason to believe they are not the true Linage if i had any doubt to the linage at the time i did not write it down on the tape so all the low generation recordings in this series have a well known and correct linage.

Please do not remaster any of theses If you wish to do remastering of this source find yourself a better quality version and remaster that.
This version is how i remembered hearing it all them years ago and how it sounded when it was recorded the way it should be heard.

THIS IS FOR SOME PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS HAVE TO PUT THERE TWO PENITHWORTH IN AND ARE NOT SATISFIED.
I PUT SAMPLES UP TO EVERY RECORDING I UPLOAD MOST PEOPLE 99% ARE SATISFIED I PUT THE SAMPLES UP SO YOU CAN HEAR THEM BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD THEM IF YOU DONT LIKE WHAT YOU HEAR ITS SIMPLE YOU DONT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT.
I OR OTHER UPLOADERS ON THESE SITES DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND TIME AND EFFORT RECORDING THESE SHOW ON A PC ETC TO UPLOAD THEM BUT WE DO AND DO IT GLADLY SO THAT OTHER TRADERS CAN HAVE THE SHOWS ETC AND ENJOY THEM.
I HAVE NEVER SAID THE SHOWS I PUT UP ARE PREFECT IN ANY WAY BUT I DO THEM TO THE BEST OF MY ABILLITY IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT DOWNLOAD THEM.

THATS MY MOAN FOR THE DAY SORRY LOL

Please also buy the bands official stuff and support them etc.
Thanks to all the Artists for there great music and to all the traders for keeping live music alive.

Comments:
Merge put together by KieranIsHome.
Basically, there are two circulating versions of this very hissy AM radio broadcast recording. The bulk of this is just one particular source that I personally find to sound better, however, most of The Musical Box on there patches in an entirely different version for some odd reason.
I've patched in the entirely correct version of the song using the other broadcast source (which I personally find to sound worse), as well as speed correcting everything.

Eeklair's notes: The mastering on this as a whole was shite. The azimuth is nowhere near the zero point of calibration in relation between the tape and the deck it was ripped from... THEN, the level saturation from lathe to vinyl was below 50%. This was one clicky noisy bugger!!

So I applied Adobe Audition's Auto Click finder/eliminator with 85% complexity and 70% intensity settings (very nice indeed), then I reduced what i consider an appropriate level of hiss - not too much as to remove the natural ambience of the show (Pay attention, Digital Brothers!). So a bottom level of hiss is present. Removing any more would destroy the integrity of the instruments/reverb/ambience, etc.

THen I raised the overall volume level from about 45% to about 85%. It's still about a B- recording, but it's better than before.

If the taper could possibly cough up the source tapes, we could master this thing properly...

Yeah, dream on eek, dream on..

Cheers

Eeklair

This absolutely terrible quality show is just like the other early shows on the tour - Pete is in great form, whereas the band are reserved, playing songs similar to their record counterparts.

Something interesting happens after Riding the Scree. Usually the song goes directly into In the Rapids, but at this show, they have to pause after it, and Pete gives a speech which seems to be about Mike's guitar having issues. Once they get fixed, they continue the show.

Genesis,

Paris,
France,
7th May 1973

The French speaker is not much of an annoyance, except for the very beginning of the broadcast: he talks over half of the "Watcher of the Skies" mellotron introduction. For the rest of the program, he just explains and gives titles between songs. He says that "Supper's Ready" was originally performed between "Get 'Em Out by Friday" and "The Return of the Giant Hogweed", but couldn't be broadcast for time constraints. Interestingly, he mentions that a version of the epic can be found on a "live album that was released in England and whose performance is exactly the same as the one here". As we all know, the track was originally on test pressings, but was excluded from the final version of the album. In case the master tapes of this Parisian concert are still existing, let's hope they survive uncut: as far as it is known, with no audience versions of this show available, this version of "Supper's Ready" sadly remains unheard.

Beware: this is an AM radio recording, not an FM one, so don't expect hi-fi sound. However, it doesn't sound worse than most of the audience recordings of the era and it's a great performance so you will like this if you are a fan of the Gabriel years. It's a great performance with everyone in fine form and Gabriel in good voice. "The Knife" ends just before the "we have won" section.

David Dunnington's entry for this concert on his "Complete Guide to Live Genesis Radio Shows":

"French AM station Europe 1 broadcast part of a gig from the Foxtrot tour on their "Musicorama" show with a reporter describing the on-stage action between songs. Introducing the Knife, the announcer said that "the audience were very warm that Monday night" which helps to verify the performance date as Monday 7th May.

There are no bootlegs from the broadcast; tapes are pretty hard to find and those I've heard are of a poor standard with Knife being clipped just before it finishes. Musicorama was a popular AM broadcast in the early 70s and Europe 1 sometimes rebroadcasts in stereo bits and pieces from these early shows - for example a Pink Floyd 1970 show was partially rebroadcast in 1995. So there is a possibility that Europe 1 still have their recording from the Olympia and may air it again one day."

Discussion:

This band got me into recording back in 2007. When they decided to have a reunion tour then, I got a hold of many "bootlegs" and was wanting to figure out just how they did it. From there I bought my first recorder (Olympus 10) and it has been history since.

This was a great chance to capture Genesis due Phil's condition. It becomes evident and almost bitter sweet to knwo that the band that meant so much to me was on it's last tour most likely. The chance to get them in Charlotte was my one and only.

Hat tip to Ryan for getting Phil's vocals, because my sources were Mike Rutherford and the back up singer. I had to time align his feed to mine for the matrix

This was a two year project waiting for technology to catch up to this mix. The ability to stem feeds was helpful and most importantly vital.

Hiccups were caught and minimized/patched. The sound is clean and fun to listen to.

What was funny was that during the song "Domino" the scoreboard in the arena flashed with a Lowe's Home Improvment signage. Thus Phil's cheeky comment of the song being sonsored by Lowe's at the end of the song.

This is a new source and never released. This is being liberated in appreciation to all who shared their mixes of Genesis with me. Thank you Simon for the Genesis torrent website Genesis Movement. You have no idea how much it meant to me.

Thank you all. Happy Holidays!

The First 20 seconds of "Firth Of Fifth" was missing on my recording i patched this
with another version ( same source ) of the show

This show is also circulating as 5-4-74 but this is the correct date.
i have 4 versions of this all from the same source this version does not seem to have as much distrotion on the louder parts as the others do and seems to be a bit clearer.

The quality is Fair.

Got This around the early 80s

I do not claim this version is better or worse than any other version in circulation

Many many thanks to the trader for sending me a copy & the person who recorded the show

As Usual Please dont convert to mp3 ( only for your own use if you do ) Please Keep all the info files md5 etc in the folder so that other collectors know which version this is etc and most of all DO NOT SELL.

Notes:
here's a story to tell you about this tape.
It was May 8th, 1982, I can recall it perfectly because it was the day Gilles Villeneuve died.
I was a young music collector and it happened to visit the place of an historical italian music collector nicknamed "Mighty Klaus"
I lent him some tapes and he invited me at home.
At the end of my visit he opened a box and, oh God, there were some really historical recordings in there !
He told me, here are some recordings I did 10 years ago. I can copy one, only one, for you now !
I remembered seeing Yes in Milano, as well as Rolling Stones at the Palalido in Milano 1970, the Beatles somewhere in Italy and this tape of Genesis in Pavia.
I picked up that one: That's my choice !
Well not the best recording of mine he said but I really loved the Genesis Gabriel era and I was too young to see them at the time.
So here's the 1st generation copy of that show which subsequently was traded and bootlegged in inferior quality by someone in the past.
It was labelled 'early show' and if you speak Italian you can hear people talking at the end of the show and one's saying: I wish I'll be here for the evening show
Thank you Klaus wherever you are (I never saw you after that day) !

(009447) Genesis 1978-05-14 Sporthalle, Koln, Germany (FLAC)

GenesisKoln, Sporthalle, May 14th, 1978 <----------- text file mistakenly says 1979

First Copy of Analog Master RTR Tape

Digital Transfer made by CTDavies

Original Recording Equipment: Uher Report 4400 Stereo IC, AKG Microphones
Original Tapes: Shamrock 13cm Reels
Cassette Type: TDK SA-90 Chrome
Playback Tape Deck: Kenwood KX9010
Digital Recorder: Sound Devices MixPre 3
very slightly EQ'd, Edits and Click Removals: Audacity
Manual Azimuth Correction (with mono headphone output setting on the MixPre 3 - which in most cases
gives pinpoint accuracy)
No Pitch Changes!

I got this tape in the late eighties (February 1988 to be specific - I still have the correspondence),
from the late great Rolf O. from Dortmund in a Genesis tape trade, as a direct copy from his open real
masters. This is one of my favorite audience recordings ever, but Rolf was never really fond of it and
in fact he hated the concert, which is why he left early and didn't record the encore. With David Bowie
in Essen the previous night and in Cologne again the next day, he had a busy and expensive week for he
was still a school kid at the time. He could only afford Shamrock tapes for this show which is probably
why the master is a bit hissy. Also, he used two different microphones here as he was 'trying something
out', as he wrote in his letter that accompanied my tapes.
Unfortunately just after the beginning of tape two there's quite a distinct pulsating hum in one channel
which gets annyoing in the quiet bits and nearly lasts till the end of the recording. I did not attempt
to remove it.

At over 2000 years, Cologne is one of the oldest cities in Germany and just south of D¸sseldorf, where
a friendly rivalry exists between the two, which is why you can hear some Boos when Phils Collins greets
people from D¸sseldorf.
The Sporthalle was opened in 1958 for a maximum capacity of 8.000, the floorplan was very distinct with
a fixed oval bicycle racetrack that seperated the floor from the seated area. One this occasion it was
seating only and Rolf was in the sixth row from the stage, center and as he says 'right in the spot with
no noise at all', he ment from the PA. Sadly the Sporthalle was demolished in 1999 to make way for the
much larger Lanxess Arena.

On the Database this is rated as a pretty poor B-. The upper frequencies on mine still needed a very
slight boost with an equalizer and I have tried to reduce the hiss with the Audacity hiss filter (always
a tricky undertaking, which I try to avoid). As I said, one of my favorite audience recordings ever,
I'll give it a solid EX-.

Side One:
01-01 Eleventh Earl of Mar
01-02 In the Cage
01-03 Burning Rope
01-04 Ripples
01-05 Deep in The Motherlode
01-06 The Fountain of Salmacis
01-07 Down and Out
01-08 One for the Vine
01-09 Squonk
01-10 Say it's Alright, Joe
01-11 The Lady Lies (cut)

Side Two:
02-01 The Story of Romeo and Juliett
02-02 The Cinema Show -
02-03 Afterglow
02-04 Follow You, Follow Me
02-05 Dance on a Volcano -
02-06 Los Endos

This recording has not been formatted to fit CDs, as I haven't burnt one myself in the last ten years
or so. Rolf probably recorded the show on both sides of a 13cm reel (270m) at 4,75cm/s which gives
more than a 95 minute recording time per side without a flip (the Uher Report could only take 13cm
reels). I have reestablished the recording exactly as Rolfs reels were, and side one is a staggering
97 minutes long. I'm not sure if Shamrock actually did 13cm reels, maybe he used Shamrock as a synonym
for cheap quality tape.

There seems to be some confusion with counting generations on tape copies. Over the years I have come
to believe that our friends across the pond see the the master tape as the 'first generation', although
I may be wrong. For me the master tape is zero and a copy of it a 'first copy' and a copy of that a
'second copy' etc. This here is one of those first copies, but not a first generation tape - as that
would actually be the master, if that makes sense...

Feel free to share on other sites, but please leave it as it is, don't remaster and/or change anything
(not that it's worth it anyway).

Tapers Story:

I first became enchanted by live performances after talking my way into the taping of
Dick Cavettís Woodstock Show on August 18, 1969 at WABC studios in New York. This was
quite an accomplishment for an eleven-year-old without a ticket. My first major concert
was The Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden on July 25, 1972. I was so impressed with
the enormity of that event that I jumped at the chance to acquire some of the vinyl bootlegs
from the Exiles on Main Street tour. These recordings surely planted a seed in my mind,
but unfortunately, I waited over 25 concerts before attempting my first recording in late
1975. Over the next ten years, I recorded approximately 125 concerts in the New York City
area. In 1985, I moved to Virginia and recorded sporadically, accumulating a few dozen shows
in the Washington DC area over the next 15 years.

My motive for taping has always been selfish. I simply wanted to enjoy the performances over
and over again. I didnít realize that I was recording both musical and personal history or
that I was witnessing the high-water mark of progressive music. I thought it would last forever,
but in the back of my mind, I must have known that I had something special. With one or two
exceptions that I later regretted, I refused to trade tapes. Very few friends were ever given
copies. I have never considered selling them ñ I have too much respect for the artists. I
protected my tapes for decades, never knowing what to do with them as they sat dormant on a
shelf. In 2010, I found the time to make digital transfers of my tapes and rediscovered the
amazing moments I had recorded. I also found an answer: I needed to get these tapes to my friends
that were with me, whose history I had also captured, and to others who would appreciate this collection.

My equipment was low-tech but yielded surprisingly good results. Almost all of my recordings prior
to 1989 were made with the built-in condenser mic on a Sanyo desktop cassette recorder (model unknown).
When the unit began to fail in 1977, I replaced it with what I thought was a better recorder, but the
tapes were distorted. I quickly purchased a new Sanyo that was identical to my first and never again
attempted an upgrade. In 1989, I bought a smaller, Walkman-type unit ñ a Panasonic RX-SR29, which
performed nicely with its condenser mic. I was never interested in producing soundboard-quality
tapes, and was almost always happy with my ìsouvenirs.î I used TDK tapes initially, then Maxell.

Recording a concert was always an adventure. Through trial and error, I arrived at the following procedure:
To get past the ticket-takers, I wore loose pants and stuffed the recorder down the front where the odds
of being frisked were minimal. I wore a loose t-shirt or sweatshirt to cover the ìbulgeî and held my breath.
The dead batteries and cheap tape I kept in the recorder were occasionally confiscated, but my friends were already
inside with the real supplies. Once inside, I would meet my friends and exchange the batteries and tape.
We had excellent seats for many concerts, but that put us in close proximity to ushers and stage security.
We needed to be in a constant state of vigilance, and we were also busy with the timing of the tape-flips.
I would occasionally
take photographs with a cheap camera, which gave me additional equipment to juggle.Without fail, someone in
my row would be in the wrong seat, and an usher would have to sort it out. It was all I could do to keep the recorder hidden without covering the microphone. It was always chaotic, but the reward was great as we listened to the
concert again on the way home.

Iím indebted to all those who assisted and inspired me along the way: Gary, Steve, and Paul/Rich, Rob, and
Paul/John, Sue, Al, and Rich/Jody, Laurie, Danny, and Martha/Geri and Allison/Howie and Linda/Kathryn. Thanks
to Mike for all of his efforts. Most of all, thanks to my family ñ K, M, E, and B ñ for their support and patience.

You are cordially invited to enjoy these time capsules. There is always room for one more in our row, but if we are loud or talkative, please donít judge us too harshly. We were swept away by the magic of the moment,
and we hope you will be too.
