~~ ENJOY ~~

The opening act was Sammy Hagar.

The last song of the show was "Television Politician", but it's missing from this recording.

notes from wiki.

The first tour in 1976 in support of the album was a short six-week promotional club tour throughout the Midwest. Boston soon found themselves on a nationwide tour that lasted 10 months. "We started playing the Agoras in Cleveland and Columbus," said Delp. "500-1000 seat clubs. The response was great, I was amazed that people were singing along with all the songs. It really impressed upon me the power of radio, the fact that wherever we went, they were just playing the record and people just came, and it was great." However, several bands that the group opened for were less than enthusiastic to meet them. At one point, they were opening for Foghat, but lost the gig when a Milwaukee disc jockey introduced Boston, not headliner Foghat, as the best rock and roll band in the world. While the band were apprehensive about opening for Black Sabbath, the experience was pleasant. "The great thing about Black Sabbath was that they didn't do soundchecks," remembered Delp. "So we were afforded all the time we wanted on stage, Ozzy Osbourne would say, 'Ahh, you wanna go up and play some songs, go ahead.' They couldn't have been nicer.

Boston eventually began headlining shows in 1977, and sold out four Southern California concert halls within a one-week span. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band opened for Boston in Detroit. On their swing back to the Northeast, they sold out two nights in the Philadelphia Spectrum—and in their New York City debut, three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden."I sold out arenas with this group in four cities from Lincoln, Nebraska to Louisville, Kentucky," said concert promoter Bob Bagaris to Billboard. "I've never seen such universal penetration of key secondary markets by any major group. Even the biggest acts usually don't do so well in every market.

original seeder's notes:
--
This is one of my favorite Boston boots from years past.
It's Boston in their prime and in their home town!
The crowd was rowdy and the band fed off of that.
Tom Scholz even instructed the crowd to ignore the rules
and stand on their seats if they wanted to.

This recording was widely traded for years on cassette,
and eventually released on a bootleg CD called "Party to Boston".
But finding a good audio source proved difficult.
I finally obtained a 2nd gen cassette tape which sounds
way better than any tape of this show I had heard previously...
and sounds *much* better than "Party to Boston"
(which is even missing a song).

No work has been done to the audio other than transfer
and normalization. Personally, I think it sounds great
just as it is. But this is a good reference copy to work
from if anybody feels bold enough to try their hand at it.

I reworked the artwork from "Party to Boston" to fit this boot.
Everything is exactly as it was except for the back.
It now reflects two CDs and lists the missing song
"Television Politician". I also added a slight drop shadow
on the text for readability. The artwork is 200dpi.

Show comments:

What a great show and set list. This was actually the first time i saw Boston, for some reason they did not play San Diego

on the Third Stage tour so i wasn't able to catch them until the Walk On tour. The recording is ok just not one of my better

ones as it is a bit distant but still a very good listen.

When CQ first asked me to record this for him, I didn't think it would be possible due to another commitment.  By the time I realized I could go, it was the day of the show and it was sold out.  I checked for tickets frequently and a few hours before the show, a nice seat popped up next to the soundboard.  Even though I'm not a big fan of the band, I jumped on it and hoped to bring home a quality recording for him.  I was already suspicious of the sound at the Filene Center from my Pat Metheny experience earlier in the month but had written off my concerns, knowing that this would be a much louder event.   I was frustrated to discover that even at arms-length from the board, the sound in this amphitheater is not focused as I had hoped.  It appears to drift away towards the high ceiling and dissipate into the great outdoors. (Next time the opportunity arises, I'll try a stack location.)  The entire evening was unlucky for me, beginning just a few minutes before the lights went down when I turned on my recorder, glanced at my levels and saw absolutely no signal.  I took a quick look at my preamp and it appeared to be dead.  I wiggled some wires and got no response.  I had just installed a freshly-tested battery at home but that was my last guess.   With a worker setting up a tripod two feet away from me in the soundboard cage, the last thing I wanted to do was fumble with equipment that was way more visible than I wanted as I diagnosed a loose battery connection. It took several attempts before I could stabilize the battery in a position for the power to stay on.  As the lights went out, I was still unsure I had completely solved the issue.  I eventually got my gear back in place, but checked my levels frequently, expecting to see them flat-lined. (I'm happy to report that there were no major drop-outs.) But to top things off, the biggest annoyance of the evening had just arrived on my left - the woman next to me turned out to be Clap-A-Long Barbie, and she had reinforcements everywhere.
