Recording Notes: In honor of the recent DVD release by the Rory Gallagher estate

and Rockpalast (Rory Gallagher at Rockpalast which included the entire 10-6-76 Studio L Köln and the infamous,

complete 7-23-77 Grugehalle Essen shows) I bring you this very nice sounding boot.

This is Rory at his finest and most popular (at least for us "older" people) during this period,

his guitar playing is amazing.

From the rocking opening of I Take What I Want, to the jazzy Calling Card, into a slide guitar driven Secret Agent,

Rory is flying! Tattoo'd Lady would become a concert standard and this performance shows why.

The acoustic set of Out on the Western Plain, Barley and Grape Rag/Pistol Slapper Blues and Too Much Alcohol

shows Rory's different guitar styles from country, ragtime and blues.

The second electric set goes from traditional rocking blues (Garbage Man) to a rock standard (Souped Up Ford)

and to the haunting Million Miles Away.

Additional Notes: Two of the tracks on this CD--Shin Kicker and Last of the Independents-

are from the 1978 release Photo-Finish. I have not been able to determine if they are from this show

(experimenting new material) or from a different show (7/18/79 Montreux 10th year show?).

Either way, grab this, as it is a great performance of Rory and the band, tight and high-spirited.

For ages an incomplete copy of this audience tape circulated without the last six songs.  The complete show is now available for the first time.  This copy has about 30 seconds more at the beginning of the show, and Roger's drum solo at the end of the impromptu is unedited here.  Also, the sound quality is a great improvement as it's much closer to the master.

Many thanks to mein anonymous freund for freeing this one from the shackles of obscurity.

As for the show itself - it's definitely not the strongest night for Freddie.  His voice isn't in great shape, and two songs are dropped from the set as a result.  This best serves as a comparison against brilliant performances like the one in Budapest a few weeks later.

We get 19 out of 31 songs played. This starts on the 4th song.

This wasn't listed in the db.etree database. I'm betting it's fairly rare.

I've listed the entire set list for the show.

I heard a radio DJ speak a couple times during the broadcast.

I just don't know which radio station it comes from.

I watched too many Beach Boys videos and thought i watched a pro shot of this, i didn't. I'm forgetful.

This is the best quality, most complete version of this show available to date. 

This is one of Robert Plant's best performances. 

TMP notes that this may be the first recording of Celebration Day played live, maybe even the first time played live. 

Black Dog is exceptionally good on this night (both Jimmy & Robert are on fire) 

Robert doesn't quite yet know the order of the verses in Stairway. 

Points of this release that are of note: 

1) Much less hiss. Better transfer. 

2) SIBLY is complete, for the first time. 

3) Speed corrected & balanced out by Eddie Edwards
