Notes:

I like this show. In fact I like this show a lot. Quality is a little rough to say the least with an ever present hiss but the guitar and vocals are clear enough.

If you're prepared to get past the aural rubbish you will find a diamond of a concert beneath.

With a stellar version of Stone Free, one of the finest and rarely equalled;

an intense rendition of Hear My Train topped off by a bluesy Red House this is one show that could

have done with a second and clearer source surfacing.

This particular recording may be considered suitable for

Hendrix diehards only, not for the casual ear but give it a try even

if it's just for the first two numbers.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Memorial Auditorium, Dallas, Texas, USA

Sunday 20 April 1969

This is a composite master prepared from two different copies of this tape.

All copies in circulation seem to be incomplete, some copies only run for 46 minutes,

others are almost complete at 55 minutes but they all have bits missing that other copies

do have and most are high generation dubs with hiss, buzzing & crackle.

Most copies have the end of Purple Haze cut.

Voodoo Child (slight return) fades out on the master but only after circa 9 minutes, many copies have the end of the track truncated

Almost all copies have some or all of the tune-up preceding Stone Free cut.

So the only option was to make a composite, two copies of the tape were received from Hendrix collectors active since the 70s

both are still hissy and some generations removed from the master but both sounded better

than anything else in general circulation at the moment.

This composite would now seem to include the complete recording,

all cuts in the music were on all copies checked and thus seem to be on the master tape.

Here's a rundown of the recording, a star *

indicates a cut in the tape, the spots where the main source was patched with the 2nd source are also noted:

(short missing bit of tune-up patched)

1 Stone free (fades in)

2 Getting my heart back together (start slightly cut)

3 Foxy lady (start slightly cut)

4 I don't live today (start slightly cut)

5 Fire (start cut, tape speed-up at 0.03, some slight tape damage / wobble - not on master?* (end of Fire and start of Red House patched)

7 Red house (start cut) (cut at 2.41, tape speed-up at 6.37) (tape flip on main source patched)

8 Star spangled banner (start slightly cut)

9 Purple haze (end garbled)\par

10 Voodoo child (slight return) (start slightly cut, end fades out, very likely on the master as no other copy seems to run longer)

Lineage:

Composite of two unknown generation dubs,

possibly low but definately at least 2 generations removed from the master
