comments:
very good sounding (and complete) JEMS master audience recording.
pretenders shows of 1980 and 81 were always a rockin' good time.
not that later shows weren't good too, but the bass and drums of the original
Farndon and Chambers was more punky/high energy new wave than the later band
and nobody in the pretenders ever played the guitar like JH-S.
typically hot early 80's era versions of the wait, stop your sobbin' and precious.
Chrissie's voice is in fine fresh form, and the band is tight and lively.
James Honeyman-Scott had a nice night (as usual) esp. in the wait,
private life, tattoed love boys, precious and mystery achievement.
this guy was one of the finest R&R guitarists of the early 80's, no doubt about it.
very unfortunate that his life was cut so short the very next year after this show.
any shows with the original band include their most energetic material
and it was this lineup that was (imho, glasnostrd19) their best live.
only a few unwelcome audience screams and not too much crowd noise
in the recording. the taper had a fairly good recording location,
and the band wasn't playing in hockey arenas yet in 1981,
so all the instruments and vocals come through clearly.
