I arrived at the venue in plenty of time, and I managed to get in without any problems.
King Georges Hall in Blackburn was built well over 100 years ago and the seating in the circle, wasn't made for a 6 foot plus guy in the 21st Century, so the leg room was non existant.
People were really enjoying themselves after all the issues with covid, and many were drinking during the Diamond Head support set. Unfortunately this meant that during Saxon people were constantly have to
get to the toilet and get more booze. So the rows in front of me had people having to stand up to let people squeeze through a very tight gap. People were well behaved but it seemed people were constantly apologizing
for the making other audience members to stand up to let them pass.
In fact two seats along from me was a guy who had a waliking stick, obviuosly disabled and sure enough he'd had a few pints of ale and the time came when he needed the toilet.
So everyone in my row had to stand up to let him squeeze past.
So just at the start of "And the bands played on" he returned and everyone stood up to let him squeeze past in order for him to return to his seat.
At this point walking stick got caught in my coat, which housed my Tascam recording device, which he started to drag away from me. As I pulled the coat back, it also pulled the Sony stereo mic out of the recorder.
Fortunately the external mics of the recorder kicked in to carry on recording and about 15 seconds later I managed to get the mic plugged back in.
Unfortuanetly you can hear this glitch right of the start of the song but other than that the rest of the gig went well.
I've managed to smooth this glitch out so its not as noticible in this shared version compared to my raw DAT recording.
Biff told the crowd that the show was being recorded and filmed. He also mentioned a new album in 2024 plus a tour and that they would return to Blackburn. So maybe there's a live Carpe Diem live album in 2023 and a new studio
album in 2024. I for one hope so.
I'm pleased with how this recording has turned out after thinking that the mic incident had ruined it. Hopefully more Carpe Diem shows get shared for us all to enjoy. Other sources may or may not surface from this show
and this is my effort and I hope you enjoy it. Tascam DR-07 are a superb piece of kit so what you get is what it sounded like from my Circle seat Row E Seat 107, I had a superb view of the stage and saw quite a bit of moshing
down on the floor of the hall.
As always with stuff I share don't convert to MP3 unless for personal use.
On no account must this be sold. Trade it wherever you want with pleasure but keep this info file intact, and give credit where it came from.
Please support the band! There are still some UK gigs left, buy T shirts and other merchandise and buy their albums there's 20 studio albums to have a go at.
This recording was made by a fan who owns all official releases of Saxon.
Anyway I hope you enjoy it.
