This is a great sound quality stereo recording. The applause was missing after most tracks which is hardly a big issue - while a good audience reaction can be heartening, loud applause does become fatiguing for me - and others - in concert recordings. One drawback of the very clear sound quality does mean that coughs in the audience, fairly close to the taper, are quite audible.

For me, it seems to take a while for things to gel with the new band, but certainly from The Partisan onwards, things fall into place. Prior to that, the evergreens work best for me - namely So long, Marianne and Suzanne. Diamonds in the Mine is given a reggae treatment! To be honest, this does work, and the audience love it - the backing vocalists, Emily Bindiger and Erin Dickens, sing wonderfully here.

The use of flutes on Sisters of Mercy certainly gets my applause...Emily and Erin's backing vocals on this song are particularly lovely, too.

On Suzanne and The Butcher there a couple of balance issues as the sounds drifts to the right channel. I have not addressed this as this is an unaltered torrent in the spirit of the no eq'ing preference here. If someone wanted to do a combined or even matrix torrent with the mono full recording of this concert which is on dime, who knows that issue could be addressed there.

If this is for you, enjoy.

LEONARD COHEN SOUGHT.

BBC session recorded 14th July 1968, broadcast Sept '68
In July 1968 Leonard recorded a session with the Tony Gilbert group for the BBC where he played 5 songs:

You Know Who I Am
Like A Bird On A Wire
Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye
Dress Rehearsal Rag
So Long, Marianne

The first 4 songs have now been shared in lossless form. The last, So Long, Marianne, only circulates in mp3 derived form currently, on grey market CDs.

Leonard Cohen's legacy surely deserves better? If you or anyone you know have a recording of the session including the last track in lossless form, it would be very interesting to hear it if it could be shared.

If you can help, thanks.
