From Egypt with LoveOne month after their legendary trip to Egypt The Grateful Dead
are back in San Francisco for 5 nights at Winterland.
It's a total of 14 hours 15 minutes and 10 seconds of history in the
final months of Winterland being a concert venue.
For at least the first 4 nights they are very much enthused and playing great!
And there's really nothing wrong with that 5th night either. It's still
The Good Old Grateful Dead!
All 5 nights were recorded from the audience by Reinhart Holwein.
And he got fabulous recordings. He was in a sweet spot for these shows!
The mix varies a bit from night to night but for the most part these are fantastic recordings.
Here we have the second night. Quite nice, great performances again.
The big jam starting with Samson right through to the end of the show is first class!
The Mind Left Body jam with elements of Got My Mojo Workin, great stuff!
I Need a Miracle is an excellent song for an encore, just done a few times.
This nights recording is really excellent. Both guitars and the bass and the piano
all come through well.
Below in the original notes they mention "Mechanical noise" that can be heard.
It doesn't sound much different than wind noise at outdoor gigs.
Anyway bits of it are on all of these recordings. I get used to it.
I can hear it especially on headphones, on speakers you may never even notice.
Below are the original notes that I have renumbered.
To burn to CD, this show would need 3.
*01-09 for CD 1.
*10-14 for CD 2.
*15-22 for CD 3.

Notes: Patch In Wharf Rat from gd78-10-18.sbd.miller.89335.sbeok.flac16.
There is some mechanical mic noise or rubbing in the right channel mid second set
starting in and most noticeable during Terrapin.
It has been addressed as best as can be expected.
Above are the original notes for shn# 100701.
=============================================
This is a remaster of shn #100701.
Thanks to the taper and the MOTB people and all who bring this stuff to share.
All of the work I do is in ocenaudio and Harrison Mixbus.
Everything I do is basically about levels. Keeping them the same in both channels
throughout the frequency range. When I speak of levels I mean RMS levels. Average levels.
I also tighten up phase issues when needed. Clear up any gaps that may be found.
If original files are high res, I have done most of the work at the higher sample frequency
and bit depths. Then towards the end I've converted to 44.1 16 bit.
There is a very short patch from the soundboard during Wharf Rat.
I've adjusted it a bit to draw less attention to itself. lol
If there was another audience recording now I would have used that for the patch.
About the screen grabs:
One can not see everything I do in these images but it shows something about
how the audio has changed between before and after.
If I'm working from high res files the before FFT and Spectral images look
quite a bit different inherently. But you can still see how they differ otherwise.

This first night the entire show is great.
Especially wonderful is If I Had the World to Give. The second of only 3 times ever played.
Love what Bob is playing on that tune.
Speaking of Bob, his guitar comes through really clearly on these recordings. Several of the nights
in particular.
These all sound wonderful on headphones.
Below are the original notes that I have edited slightly for numbering the set list.
If burning to CD put set one and Scarlet/Fire on the first CD.
Start the second CD with Estimated Prophet.
